Before I die

Savannah, Photo credit: Trevor Coe

We have heard it before, what’s on your bucket list?  Candy Chang, an artist took it one step further.  After loosing a loved one and contemplating death she eventually found clarity in her life.  She wanted a daily reminder and not to get hung up on the day-to-day struggles.  She wondered what really mattered to others.  With permission from the city of New Orleans she painted an abandoned house with chalk paint and stenciled a grid with the unfinished sentence Before I die I would like to______________________.

The response was overwhelming.  The wall was full by the next day and kept on growing.  Before I die I want to see my daughter graduate, sing for millions, abandon all insecurities…  The wall is a reminder that she is not alone.

She has had requests from all over the world to create a wall in their community.  500 walls have been created in over 30 languages and 70 countries.

You can follow the latest Before I die walls and responses on Twitter, Facebook or a monthly newsletter.
